Elective Surgery Centre

The Elective Surgery Centre (ESC) is dedicated solely to providing elective (non-urgent) surgical procedures to patients through the Waitematā DHB area.

The purpose-built ESC opened in 2013 and is one of the most medically advanced facilities in New Zealand it contains:

• four operating theatres

• a post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU)

• a theatre sterile supply unit

• 40 inpatient beds

• 10 consulting rooms

• a public cafe

The ESC is designed to reduce waiting times for elective surgery and ensure a more efficient service for patients. A number of resources have been developed to support the ESC patient journey including brochures and DVDs.
